Women Empowerment Cell in association with E-Club, School of Physiotherapy, and Department of Environmental Science has celebrated World Environment Day on 5 th June 2023 with the following activities.
Dr. Kiranmai Reddy, Assistant Professor Department of Environmental Sciences, GITAM School of Sciences presented an amazing talk on Biomimicry and encouraged the students to look for solutions from different aspects of nature.
Dr. Vivarna, a Gynaecologist, of GITAM Institute of Medical Science (GIMSR), enlightened about the Menstrual Hygiene and burden of plastic waste created by sanitary pads in a women's lifetime and suggested the best and healthy alternative menstrual cup and its benefits. The Platypus Escapes Team, Mr. Subash and Ms Cinderella in their inspiring presentation elaborated on the extent of the problem of plastic waste and the work they do at Rushikonda Beach to clean up the ocean bed and restore the ecosystem.
Students participated in the 3-day reel-making competition on "innovative ideas on avoiding the use of plastic". 1 team presented the charts made. The event concluded with Dr. Madhuri Kasi, Chairperson of Women Empowerment Cell thanking the speakers and reminded the responsibility of each and everyone in implementing plastic-free practices and the discipline to follow through in daily life. Faculty from the Department of Environmental Sciences, School of Physiotherapy were present at the event. Ela Cup, an environment-friendly Menstrual Cup with a vision to produce zero period waste and through education and awareness at an early age, responsible & sustainable consumption sponsored for the event.
