After completing an energetic 2-day workshop on self-defence empowering the participants with important techniques of Krav Maga, and a huge appreciation from female participants, we are back with another valuable webinar on Subliminal Violence.
In this era, violence is not always just physical but takes many different forms and sometime camouflages behind sweet talk, friendships and attachments. Whether viewed as positive or negative, weapons are a part of and also the basis for who we are as a society. They may be in the form of words, subtle discouraging cues or behaviours. The environment we live in - workplaces, study places, family, friends and acquaintances profoundly affect a person's behaviour. Most people would not think that a subliminal violence in one's surroundings can produce a profound reaction in one's thoughts, actions, or demeanour shaping who we are, who we become, and even how we act.
This webinar was aimed to identify these subtle environmental cues, how it can shape a person's attitude and behaviour, how to handle them and what can be done about it.
Women Empowerment Cell @GITAM, Visakhapatnam, conducted an enlightening webinar "Is it Subtle or Grave, Symbolic or Real? for students, teaching and non-teaching staff" a webinar on subliminal gender violence by VIRAAM, a non-profit organization, which offers a liminal space to pause, reflect and recognise symbolic, intimate and culturally embedded 'everyday' gender violence. It is dedicated to gendered nonviolence, seeking to generate conversations and bring hidden and embodied gendered experiences of symbolic violence to light. VIRAAM is a circle of young people who seek to engage with cultures and their normative frameworks related to gender and thereby bring honest conversations of non-extreme and hidden forms of symbolic violence to the mainstream and what can be done about it.
